Re: turtle shell problems

My Belize Slider did have a similar injury. I don't know if mine was caused by aggression or not, but it is possible. What this looks like to me is Shell Rot. What happened looks like the scutes on the right were infected, and fell off (possibly with the help of the other turtle), leaving an open wo...

Re: Red worms in filter

They grow in my DIY pond filter. They just help break down the waste. Quite beneficial.

Re: Can they fit?

Also, females can be aggressive towards each other as well.

Re: Worried About Nemo's Shell

With what I was going with. If his shell truly is deformed, it can be a big deal, and it also could be nothing. Sometimes turtles are born with weird shells. Complications can occur because of this as they grow, but there is nothing you can do to prevent this. Only time will tell.

Re: Worried About Nemo's Shell

I still can't tell but the top of the shell looks to be disfigured. From what I can tell, this is what the shell looks like: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a230/kinglinusII/Screenshot2014-06-13at102956PM_zps01919ea0.png When it should look like this: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a230/kinglin...

Re: Worried About Nemo's Shell

The pictures are so small so it's hard to tell. But it looks like the shell is deformed.

Re: Road to Recovery for 6 Turtles

It looks like they weren't given enough space. Weird to see turtles with no pyramiding, yet still bad shells!

Good on you!

Re: An act of cruelty.

Looks like he took the picture down from Instagram. I'll see if I can report him still.

Re: Boba's photos

Very creative! I've always wanted a softshell, but am too afraid to purchase in case I get a female. I can't house an 18" turtle!

Re: timer for a basking light

It's just a simple lights timer. You can go into any hardware store and they'd have them.

Re: Rio Grande RES

They are just like regular Red Ears. They can get about 12" for the females.

Turtles are solitary animals. If you get 2 and they start fighting, you'll have to get 2 large tanks.

Re: Filter for 100 gallon Rubbermaid

You can make your own canister filter. All you need is a 5, or 7 gallon bucket, and a pump. I recommend 250 GPH+. It would probably be less than $100. Here's mine:

Re: Philburt's New Home

Hello fellow Los Angeles turtle keeper. First, as Steve mentioned, I highly recommend a predator proof cage over the pond. We have lots of raccoons here. I've lost 2 turtles over the past 10 years or so from them. Here's what I have over my pond. It can be easily removed and/or opened, and it keeps ...
