Re: Hibernation in Bay area CA?

That'll be fine. Anywhere from 70 to 75 is good.

Re: Snails w/ sand?

Check out a video I posted of some of mine when they were babies. It takes like 15 seconds to focus. They are very small. I have fine sand in my tank so you can compare them to the grains of sand.

Re: Snails w/ sand?

I have LOTS of them. I'd be worried feeding them to a turtle because they are really sharp and hard. You can't smash them with your fingers.

Re: Hibernation in Bay area CA?

Yea I wouldn't recommend hibernation if you are unfamliar with it. I do have a friend who hibernates her turtles outside in stock tank in San Francisco, but she has been perfecting her method for years.

Re: Hibernation in Bay area CA?

If they are inside in a heated tank, they will not hibernate.

Re: Is it bad to use waterfall type filters?

Yea it's fine. As long as your turtles aren't being thrown around the tank. A current and breaking the waters surface are both good.

Re: Las Vegas Reptile Show

Turtles are usually less common at shows because it is harder to transport them, and many of the breeders don't go to the shows. At the NARBC show in LA that just passed, Paul V usually vends alongside of Waterland Tubs and has a large variety of hatchlings.

Is it possible for you to move the heat lamp and the UVB lamp above the basking area?

Re: My Bamboo Shrimp

He's a filter feeder, so nothing. He puts out these fans and captures particles floating in the water column.

Re: buying food in bulk?

I buy in bulk, and just not to this extent. For the pond, and I buy the big bag of reptomin that goes for $39.99 around here. I'm not home so I don't have the oz. But it lasts me about half a year or maybe a little less. And that's with me feeding 2 turtles, and 15+ large goldfish with it.
