This was taken when he had been basking for a while and was completely dry. Isn't he just precious?
'Course, there's no sense of scale in this pic. The little turt is about an inch in shell length.

I've wondered if (s)he's one of those Yellow Eared Sliders, but I don't know enough about turtles to tell. The "ears" have actually turned slightly orangish in the few days I've had him/her. Very active little turt so far with a magnificent appetite!

I have read that a RES's ear color can change based on diet, so I am sure it is the same whether it is a RES or a YES. Over the next few week the ears should go one way or the other. If they start to turn pink or red then you know it's a RES. The are almost the same turtle, just a few variences.

Tini, thanks for the info! I'll be sure to keep an eye out over the next week or so.

The colored ear part may vary from a rich red color to orange and yellow - some RES don't even have any color there.

Ok, I thought the yellow ear slider were a different subspecies (Cumberland Slider) this isn't true? I know my RES' ear color changes but never to yellow .. I could wish as it is my favorite color

For me, the pattern looks like a RES.
Here's what mature YBS look like:

HAHA you guys are too funny! But seriously, if (s)he is a red or a yellow ear, the care is pretty much the same, right? I've got him in the same enclosure as another hatchling who is definately a red ear. Here's a pic of that little one, just so no one feels left out...

Yes, the care is the same, no need to worry there
How come the other turtle the YES has such a gritty shell? Was this in another post ??
