My Three Turtles. Eeek <3

It started out as this little tiny guy named Nemo
Image

And we swore we would never get another turtle, because they're such hard work..

Well, after many months of lurking on craigslist, an ad popped up. Five turtles, in a ten gallon tank. With four inches of water, no filter, no heater, and they were feeding them "land turtle food."

I guess inthis thread I will track their growth and getting back to health through pictures.
Here we go.

Turtle one: YBS, not named yet. Open to suggestions

Just by looking, not doing any measurements yet, he/she looks to be about 3 inches width. You can't tell in the picture, but it has holes in its shell where it has lost 'schutes'(?). We found one in the bottom of the ten gallon tank when we took it apart.

I'm pretty sure he/she is pretty close to being fully grown, measuring in at around 6-7 inches in width. He/she is the most friendly, and has even ate from my fingers already!

Turtle three: YBS, not named yet. Open to suggestions

This turtle is starting to get a very special place in my heart, well, all of them are, but this one, the first one, and the next one have stolen my heart.

Turtle four: YBS, not named yet. Open to suggestions

I love his/her coloring. I'm still wondering why all five have different shell patterns, colors, and shapes.

He/she is probably second to the most shy one we received. I'm hoping that changes soon.

Turtle one is living with Nemo for the time being. He/she is the sickest and in mid-shed. He/she is also the tiniest and I'm afraid of him/her getting hurt by the others. The other four are in a makeshift small pond in the backyard. A six foot diameter kiddy pool, which holds 286 gallons(give or take, can't remember 100% what the box said). They have no filter in it, yet. But they do get mid morning/afternoon sun and shade from a near by tree. I will post a picture of it, but please no hate. I'm trying to convince my mother and father that we /need/ an inground pond.

THree of the turtles went missing. So now we're down to three. :(

Turtle 4 looks like a cross between an RES and YBS.

Could be. We were never told what they were.
You say that because of the bit of red coloring on the 'ears' right?

They won't have any health issues or growth issues from being a cross, right?

Shouldn't. I've seen quite a few people with crosses that do fine. On austin's turtle page there are a few people with cross breeds that are beautiful and healthy.

Because of my bad luck, the worst that could happen, happened.
I'm missing three turtles now. We have no idea where they are

Did they escape the pool? Is there a cover over it? Maybe a raccoon or bird of prey caught them.

I'm not sure yet. It happened sometime during the day though, they were fine this morning. There's wire around it. I'm really mad and upset. Mom thinks they buried themselves in the sand in the pond.

You can dig around to see. But if there is no cover, they could have been snatched off the basking area.

Three are gone. I'm left with two YBS and one RES. I can not believe I was this stupid. I am very angry at myself

Did you check between the fence and the pool?

The last one has been put in with a Nemo and turtle 1. Tomorrow we are going to petsmart. I have to get a bigger basking ramp and new food

Yes, I walked the whole back yard. I took down the pond and emptied it and nothing but that one.

I feel like I shouldn't be allowed to even own pets. Those turtles came from a very nice lady who loved them, just didn't know how to take care of them, and I let them die. I feel 100% quilty

It sounds like nature happened. You didn't do it on purpose. This wasn't your goal. Don't beat yourself up too hard. Maybe they climbed out. Just check around your yard every day to see if they show back up.
