A Slider Turtle with Orange Ears?

Hello everybody, I hope you are all having a wonderful day! The reason I joined this forum is because my grandmother gave me a pet baby turtle and I wanted to learn more about him/her! It's name is Shellby(notice the double 'l')! At first I didn't know it's gender and I tried to Google it, and according to what I found it was too early to tell, I also went around and asked pet store owners and none of them had a clue! Then I decided to learn the name of the species, and I found out it is probably a Slider Turtle and then I saw that RES have very intense red ears yet mine had orange ears! At first I thought that the colour would intensify as it grows up but then I saw a baby RES and it had intense red ears, then I continued searching and I found out that my turtle looks similar to the Cumberland Slider Turtle. But that type of turtle doesn't have them orange ears! What I want to know is, what specie is my turtle? And is it too soon to tell its gender? If you guys can help me, that would be great!   :msgreen: :msgreen: :msgreen: :D

Hi there,

It looks like a RES, but I'm also not quite sure ( I'll look into it )
yes it is too early to determine the sex of the turtle. Cute name by the way :)

Does your grandma know the species? Maybe you could ask her.
Or maybe you could find out where she got the turtle?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about this xD
If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

EDIT:
I looked into it more, and compared both the RES and CST. can you send me another picture of its ears so I can confirm the species?? Thanks!

The slight alteration could have occurred due to the passing of mixed genes; there may have been an interbreed of separate turtle species that had happened in the previous or earlier generations. As a result, your turtle will have characteristics of a RES turtle and another turtle species that is still unidentified.

It's pretty uncommon, but as steve stated, it happens.

This turtle could be a yellow belly/RES mix. Any update on Shelby?
