Here is Orion (got him second, and he has actually grown more, is up to 1.75")

This is Reyna (got her first, is now up to 1.6")

This is their new setup. I had larger rocks in the bottom before, but they were gathering too much junk, so I took them all out, and now just some pieces of slate and plants. The plants give the baby fish someplace to hide, and Reyna and Orion something to nibble on if they get hungry before I get home from work to feed tehm. Also, their new and improved basking area is super easy for them to get onto. I got some roofing slate which works great cause it is easy to break/cut and easy to stack. Other than that, have a dozen rosy red minnows I just put in, 6 guppies that I have had for over a month that they seem to show no interest in, and 9 baby guppies that were all born in the last week or so.

Thanks Jen :)

They seem to be enjoying it so far.

Nail is doing pretty well too... another month or so and it should be almost completely back in... just went to a seminar for work entitled "Accidents dont just happen"... found it rather amusing, cause I thought that they were called accidents cause no one meant for it to happen, the lady teaching didnt see the humor in my thumb that the rest of the class did :D

hey your thumb looks good!!! your set up is nice, my husband made the pvc basking thing to I love it :!: the turtle does to ha ha.We drilled little holes around in the pipe and I stick real and artificial plants in em as well as wrapping plants up the legs of it using the weighted bands that are on the bunches from the pet store its really cool looking, I also sunk a brownish plastic like glass the kind you get your drink in at a restuarant. its under the cleft, with plants in it to. my turtle thinks its a cave lol fish hide in it too. with the plants and fish I really love the lively look with a bare bottom tank

Drilling holes is a good idea, I was thinking of just using string or fishing line to tie plants on. I am moving in another month or so, so after I move I will really make the tank nice, I just dont want to have to move a ton of stuff, already have enough as is. I will def keep the hole idea in mind though.

I need to work on making a cave. Was thinking of breaking up a piece or two of slate and then using liquid nails to keep it together cause Reyna and Orion seem to enjoy knocking all the rocks over and moving all the plants around. Little trouble makers they can be.

Very nice! :D

L_L_F just a note on those weighted bands--these are the grey metal ones that come wrapped around bunches of aquatic plants and are really soft? If so, they're likely made of lead, some of which will leach into the water. I know there's lead in water already, but you may not want to increase the content any more than is naturally there. Just so you know...

how big are your pvc platforms?
i just finished mine, i'm not going to drill holes into it, but i think i will use gravel to weigh it down. also any more pics?

btw, i'm having such a hard time finding a few pieces of good slate. all the tile places were no help, i'm looking for some landscaping places now...

My PVC is about 12" tall, as wide as the tank, and about 16" long so that I had room to have an extra platform for them to rest on underwater. All you need to do is allow water to get into it for it to sink. When you build it, PVC seals so tight that it actually makes it all airtight and water tight, so if you just undo one of the connections and allow water into the pipes, it will sink and then just seal it back up again.

As for slate, if you want to pay the shipping, I can ship you some roofing slate. I got it from work cause it is either missing a corner, or has a crack forming or something. Shipping would be like $8 via USPS Priority Mail if you are interested. And you can choose from green or purple color.

Be carfull guppies are goin to take over your aquarium. they duplicate and they never die. so when you have a 100 guppies in your tank and there isnt anyroom, DONT BLAME ME! lol hopefully your turtles will eat them befor its to late.
