I am new to the turtle world and I just want you to know that I love my res so much! At first i was very concerned about my purchase, but since they (I have two) have become comfortable (not hidding and feeding from my hands) with me and my classroom, i am sooooo happy! Daily, i watch and talk to my two little friends, and can't imagine my life without them. So that is my thought for the day, I love my turtles! :D

I'm so glad to hear that things are going well for you. How are they handling being around the kids?

I'm in love!

My kids are great with the RES. They know they can't really touch or play with them and fine with them. Often, during class I see the kids watch the turtles and almost become memorized my them....secretly, i love it. They all respect the turtles and care deeply about them having enough food, water, heat, ect. The RES on the other hand seem to be coping. Not stressed nor overly excited by their presence. I do notice that they sun or seem more relaxed when my kids are out of the room. They also respond to me (come up to the surface, eat from my hand, etc.) and rarely respond to them :( I'm hoping over time, they will become more comfortable with the kids and respond to them in the same way they respond to me. Thanks for your post.

That's great to hear that they are adjusting so well. I have grandchildren.. and the turtles absolutely love them. Of course they also provide them their treats when they get them.. :)

Some how I bet you're starting some poor innocent child on the path of being addicted to turtles.. hahaha. Seems once they get into your heart, you just never get over it :)

If you don't feel they are basking enough, you can always put up a picture or something to block the view from the basking platform.
