Hello all,

To make this short I basically adopted my two little turtles and would like to know is how old people think Mike and Ike are. They both were sold to the previous owner at the same time. Please view the following link for pics of them: http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18458

As far as measurements go -
Mike = 1 3/4 inches in diameter
Ike = 1 1/2 inches in diameter

Thanks so much fellow turtle parents! Hehe...

its very difficult to tell age, but as a general rule of thumb most RES grow up to about 4 inches in the first year.

For measuring your turtles, you measure the Straight Carapace Length (SCL), the length of the shell from the scute behind the neck down to the end of scutes above the tail. Don't include the curve of the shell.

Unless you watched them hatch or whoever told you when they hatched, you'll never know.

However, I got my turtle when he was like 1.5" in shell length, and after about a year, he's reached 4". So I would estimate that mine is 1.5 years old or so. I don't care, far as I'm concerned he's a year old.
