Is it because of their high protein content? Also I bought them because the petstore did not have the tiny pinhead crickets, and only had the large crickets, bummer. But now that I think of it I could of got them after all and than just have killed em and broke em up. :/ Next time I go to the petstore I will buy some Bloodworms and Crickets. Than when older I will get him Earthworms.

Yes 50% protein! That's high. I think any cricket would be fine can you get live crickets? In the wild in Kansas your turtle would eat fish snails all kinds if bugs crawdads tadpoles frogs and maybe some plant matter? Heck if large enough small birds and snakes are not out of question.

I love snakes. So those are off the list, but yes I am planning on buying it bass once it is 12 inches in size. Tadpoles and Crawdads sound great, the majority of crickets sold at petstores are 1 inches in size, but I will try to find smaller ones. I always thought of feeding a snapper a live duck. Since I have seen them kill ducks in the wild. I am gonna stay away from mealworms now. Frogs, hmm heard they were not a good source of food because they can get the inside of a Turtle very sticky and cause ingestion but I will research that. Here are the list of animals I plan on feeding when older: Silkworms, Waxworms, EarthWorms, Large crickets and grasshoppers, Crawdads aka Crayfish, Various shrimp, Guppies and Baby fish, Pond Snails and Ducklings if possible. For plants well a snapper specialist said all 5 of his snappers chow down on Water Hyacinth and Anaracharis, and the occasional red leaf lettuce and grapes.
