Hi, my RES was taken to the vet yesterday due to a cracked Plastron. At the vets we learned that the turtle is actually female. We have a male at home (Roger Waters). Now I'm a bit concerned about them breeding. What are the conditions for mating & what iare the chances of them breeding without special care? Would like some advice on this.

Chances are the male will take what ever opportunity he has. Since they are in confined areas, this will happen very often, especially as they mature. Aggression will also be inevitable as females do not want to mate as often as males and there will be frustration and fighting.

You are looking at separation, not only to prevent mating, but to prevent serious injuries.
