Why does he dash away quickly when I walk near him, then watches me very closely until I walk past again and darts off? He's so funny!

Maybe he's trying to see if you're a threat. It's pretty normal for them to be a bit skittish around people.

Yeah. You're probably right. I was hoping it's hide and seek.

Good news is: he's going to live a long life, so he has plenty of time to decide that I am no threat.

Yet how do I avoid having him view me merely as the food provider?

Maybe after awhile, you can take him outside for some interaction.

I hold her most every day and walk her around the house talking to her. I open the front door and let her look outside. She observes with curiosity. So cute. :msgreen:

She only dashes away when she's sun bathing in the window. Still very shy about certain things (the feeding process is adorable) but clearly feeling more relaxed. 3 months old (with me). Growing fast. Concerned about protein overload. (Canned tuna.)

The tank is located next to a window? That's usually not a good thing.

She's there when I'm not home or, if I'm home, when the sunlight is streaming in. She's very observant of the comings and goings, and maybe the pool. I am concerned about the temperature, especially as our first winter sets in.

At night, she usually comes in the bedroom with me, but I'm afraid it's not much warmer in there. I have taken to changing her water, even though it's clean, just to warm things up.

New aquarium with basking light no later than Saturday... :msgreen: I think she'll make it.
