Cross breeding turtles

This is simply a hypothetical question. I have a baby Red Eared Slider Sharing a 20 Gallon tank with a Pink Belly Side Neck Hatchling. After 2 months of living together they are both deemed healthy (I own 5 turtles in total and take them to a vet twice a year) and seem to get along well. (no one seems to be biting or scratching eachother) and both are active and bask (including the Pink Belly, who I understood was more aquatic). So compatibility does not seem to be an issue.

Heres where the hypothetical comes in,

Assuming one is a male and the other female, would there be any chance of cross breeding between the two? I know Pink Belly Sidenecks are rarer and still lesser known (at least in my nation anyways) but does anyone know much about their breeding and this scenario? I would greatly appreciate any sources one could include. Cheers!

I don't think they can successfully breed a hybrid... though never say never.

They cannot breed. Animals from the same Genus can create hybrids. Other than that, the chances are incredibly slim. Someone did accidentally breed a map and a red eared sldier together though: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_ ... index.html

Linus - One of my turtles is a RES/common map hybrid. Nobody thought they could be bred until very recently, like what you mention about ATP. That's almost exactly what Typhoon looked like at that size, but she has the red stripes.
