My turtle basks sooo long. Today as soon as I turned on his light he climbed on his rock, yawned, and stayed there till 5 o clock (no 100% sure he didn't get off because I was at school)
My theory is that his water's too dirty(The filter is too weak for his new tank so we have to clean more often) so he wants to stay dry. He also sleeps on the rock most of the day.
I worry too much tbh  :(
On an unrelated note when he's scared(or maybe just on land not sure) his poo is a runny mud consistency but in water it always forms hard nuggets that over a few days fall apart into brown flower-things (probably because he mainly eats lettuce)

Is your turtle active once off the basking dock? I don't think it's a water issue.

I'm not sure about the poo situation, brown flower things?

yeah he's active. He begs and stuff. But sometimes in the morning he just sits in the water after waking up. It takes him a minute but that doesn't happen very often.
The poo falls apart is a better way to explain.
Were thinking about giving him away(letting someone adopt him) Because he doesn't make me happy anymore he just worries me and makes me sad
Maybe i'll try again when i'm older

The basking and poo thing sounds normal more or less. As for giving him away, that's up to you but I think you are doing fine. There's a big learning curve and some expenses, but once that is out of the way its much easier.

I don't think we ill give him away because my mom says i'm doing super good and the people at the pet store do too. I just think he would be happier with an expert.

You're being too hard on yourself. We all had to start somewhere and none of us are experts. Doing the best you can is the right thing to do moving forward.

My oldest will be with us 30 years in December. They are amazing intelligent little people. Keep him and don't be afraid to hug him.
Fred loves his snuggles and has gone from chasing and almost catching chipmunks to being super relaxed. My wife will carry him around bending over and twisting & turning and he doesn't blink, once he is right end up he will sneak up and kiss her.

Most turtle pellets have "binders" in them to cause their poop to stay together as to keep the water clean but certain foods will soften the poop such as greens, tiny amounts of cooked chicken (size of a pellet), banana, strawberry, skinless corn kernels, and oranges.
