Heya! Just wondering: If your turtle carries salmonella, and you contract it, how long does it take for it to start making you sick? If the answer is less than a month. my turtle is yuck-free, or else I would be dead... :| :msgreen:

Turtles carry salmonella and so do other pets like dogs. A turtle is never yuck-free always a chance for contact. Small children seem to get it more that's why it's a law (with loop-holes) ...must be 4" to be sold. Young children always put things in there mouth. As far as you practice good hygiene (wash thoroughly ) never use your kitchen sink to clean an turtle item. Then you will be OK and watch young children. Wash surfaces that the turtle or any items has come in contact with. If a person did have direct contact within hours to say three days after contact with the bacteria // diarrhea , fever , nausea , vomiting and could last up to a week ! Anything used for turtle even towels dedicate it for turtle use only , this is true for any pet. Always practice good hygiene and you all will be OK.
