Hi I have a question regarding Eastern box turtles . We have two box turtles we rescued them both from the road one actually got hit but we nursed him back to full health. We have them both in a outdoor habitat. We live in SC and winter is fast approaching . What do we need to do to keep these guys safe and warm for winter. Do we need to bring them in ? I tried doing my own research and from what I have read they dig and bury themselves underground . Then I have also seen people say I need to overwinter them . What is that ? I just want these guys to live and what to do to keep them alive for winter . Will they eat or drink in winter or what ? I know one is female and the other is male . I have no idea the age but I do know they are not babies any help would be appreciated thanks !

I'd go over these first -- http://www.gctts.org/node/73 and http://www.anapsid.org/box.html

I would also contact a local turtle rescue since you are in a unique situation. You might also want to post your question here: http://pets.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/ ... ongIsland/

I think they have a few members from SC there. Good luck!

I live in Canada and I keep my box turtles indoors year round as I live in an apartment. If you bring them indoors to live with you, you have to have the proper humidity and lighting.
