Hi,
I'm new to the turtle world. I inherited a 1 1/2" baby girl. She is sooo cute, and I am very excited about having a turtle, especially since my friend trusted me enough to take care of her. Her name is Lucy, because my friend was obsessed with I love Lucy. She's tiny but fast! I had no idea that turtles were so fast, especially one that is about the size of my thumb. I look forward to talking with you all, and am very eager to hear your advice at anytime

Well thank you everyone, glad to be here. I don't have any picks yet, but I will get some. She really is a cutie. Maybe once I get the hang of turtle ownership, I will get a boy and name him Ricky. That would be cool

That would be cute to have a "ricky" but really really think about it before getting another one. There are so many more factors to deal with when having multiple turtles. Cost is a major one. If they do not get along they will have to be separated into two tanks(which have to be upgraded as they grow), which means two of everything else(basking dock, filters, heaters, UVB and UVA lights, etc). Also, even though this little one is named Lucy, that doesn't mean she is a girl. The gender of a turtle can not be told until they are at least four inches in length. :)

Haha! Thanks Sonyj. I will think about it before I get another one. And at least if Lucy ends up being a boy, then I can always just call her Ricky. Although I think that would be weird, and very confusing for my new best friend. I can't wait till she gets bigger that way I know for sure. I have a question? Does anyone elses turtle come to them when they call them? Actually when I talk to her, she comes right to her rock and cocks her head to listen. Is that unusual?

I'm wondering what your "turtle voice" sounds like. :)

HI. Nice to meet a turtle owner in NJ! Good luck. I'm new too. In fact, my baby RES is from Canada.

LOL.... that is too funny. Just hope your mother-in-law isn't a turtle fan and finds this site.... :D My turtle voice is the same you use when speaking to a baby, that's what I thought you meant by yours. But your voice seems much funnier. Too bad there's not a way to add a voice file to your post. We'd all love to hear it!!! :D

Can you compare your turtle voice to any character, actor, etc.?
