I'm Mike and I've had my femal RES Raf for 2 years now. She was purchased at a flea market by my sister when she was the size of a quarter and now she has a SCL of almost 6". We though she was a male and named her Rafael because she's a RES, come to find out she's a she so we kept her name as Raf. She is lethargic and has pyramiding on her front spots and that is due to me only feeding commercial pellets. I didn't do real research until a few months ago. I look forward to finding new information and tips to taking care of my RES.

I do have a question, what is the best aquarium plant to remove nitrate? I was thinking a pothos but I'm now reading that it can be harmful to turtles.

Not sure which plant is best but RES usually disrupt them too much. I would rely on partial water changes to control nitrates.

Hi welcome to forum ! Yes Steve is 100% correct ! Nothing like a good maintenance schedule. Take your time and read some threads / stickeys also. Adjust your maintenance and her diet to. Get those things under control first ! Down the road then think about plants. Most all turtles will tear them up , be ready for more maintenance then , and a plant tank just to keep up with her. Growing your own is cheaper than keep buying at a LPS.
