I posted my turtle problem in general discussion b4 introducing myself.
My husband and I are the proud owners of Flash the turtle. That is him in the picture to the left. We got him from a coworker whose children no longer wanted him. He was in a small plastic container with 2 rocks and almost no water. We brought him home and quickly made a larger home for him. We have had Flash for about 3 months and I like to think he is happy with his new home and with us as his new owners. This site and the people have been super helpful. I look forward to chatting some more.

well, he only has about 4 inches of water, b/c I read somewhere the water should only be as deep as his shell is long. But since looking around this site, I see he can handle way more than what he has, I plan on changing the water today.

I'm a noobie too, but the way I read it was, "the depth of the water should be AT LEAST twice the lenght of the turts shell".

My water is about 15"-17" deep, and Pokey (1.5") dives off the basking platform & goes all the way to the bottom. If not swimming, he spends most of his water time down there. At night, he sleeps in the plants, with head poked up out of the water. When you raise the water, give yer turt a sitting area so he could get air without moving.

If your interested, this is my set up http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7258

Flash likes to dive off the platform too, poor thing was probably thinking "i wish i had more water". I am learning so much as I go. I'll let you know how he likes his new atmosphere as soon as i am done.
