my pastel scratching problem

my pastel slider seems to be shedding a thin layer off a couple of his scutes his shell feels a little bumpy in a couple of spots some scutes seem to be raised or rounded then others especialy frunt scutes by head his shell is not smooth like my other res wich is not a pastel is this normal? he also wedges himself between my rock and floating doc and scratches his back-- back and forth and side to side-- he seems to enjoy doing this. Does any one know is this common reaction to shedding or shell growth (scratching)
Would like to post video it is realy great to see he realy gets into it!!

yes that's normal, he's trying to get the scute to come off

it is a zoomed floating doc light synthec. plastic-- photo above
he rubs the bottom wich is kind of smooth not like top of doc
