What do I do when something is coming out of his rectom?

A few minutes ago my turtle just started freaking out in his tank and when I looked at him there was something purple-ish hanging out under his tail. It looked like some kind of internal body part but I do not know what it was and now he seems fine and the thing that was hanging out is gone. Should I be concerned? Should I take him to a vet? I really love this turtle and I want to make sure he is ok

Your turtle was most likely "fanning" and what you saw was his penis.
Did it look like this:

It's completely normal so long as he can retract- which it sounds like he did from your post.

Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it, obviously this was the first time that I saw this. So should I look into getting him a girl? or will he be ok by himself?

He will be OK by himself. They will probably fight if you get another one.

I think emmanelson96 meant to say they will "fight" instead of "right". :D

She is correct in that. Sometimes two turtles get along in an enclosure but too often they start fighting and have to be separated. Then they require two separate setups - tanks, filters, lights, etc - which gets expensive and takes a lot of space.

A single turtle gets along just fine. It means he'll get more of your undivided attention!
