Weird gray spot on the foot?

I'm relatively new to RES, but I have been researching like crazy! I rescued these cute little guys from a college student who kept them in a 10 gallon (they're about 6 inches each.)

I noticed one of my turtles, Bartleby, has a weird gray spot on his/her foot. Any idea what it is?

I don't know what kind of care they've had in the past, so I don't know what this could be.

He's been really quiet since the move (tuesday, the 24th), but has a healthy appetite. He moves around just fine.

Does anyone know what that is? I'm worried.

To me it looks like a cut that is healing but I could be wrong.

Welcome to the forum. You're very kind to have taken these guys in. The water quality where they came from was probably very bad (turtles much too large for the tank) which would lead to infections.

It does look like an injury - cut or bite. It looks pretty bad. Here's a home treatment from a respected site (Austin's Turtle Page). If the area doesn't start to look better in a couple of days or if it gets worse, you'll need to have him treated by a good herp vet.

"Clean the injured area with clean water. Disinfect the area with iodine or betadine. Treat with Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazine), Neosporin or triple action antibiotic. Let turtle be dry for about an hour after treatment. Place in separate tank with clean water. You can add StressCoat for fish as it assists in the healing process. Treat this way daily for about 2 weeks or so."

Good luck!
