frantic swimming

The past couple of days my turtle is franticly swimming at the glass trying to get out, she will get up on her basking platform and for like 10 seconds try to escape and jump back into the water and try really hard to climb the glass. She was really calm before this, basked normally, and swam normally.





How big is your turtle? 6 inches
How long have you had it? 5 years

What is the water temperature? 78
Did you use a thermometer? yes
Are you using a water heater? yes
How much water is in there? 55-75 gallons
Are you using a water conditioner? yes, prime
Are you using any filtration?

What is the basking temperature? 92-95
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? floating dock- temporary until i build a new one (but she used it for years)
Is there a UVB light? yes

What have you been trying to feed it? pellets/ carrots/ TRYING TO FEED IT leafy greens but she refused to eat them
When was the last time your turtle ate? today

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 75 gallon
Is the tank near a window? no
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? not really

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? nope

Hmm it sounds like you turtle might be caring eggs. One of the sign is going from calm to hyper nonstop like you described. IF you can take her outside a roam around she might nest for you outside. Other option is container with soil as deep as her shell length.
You can try feeling for eggs, this video can help. If you can feel eggs then you know for sure.

I do feel something in there, but i do not not know what it feels like normally =( I've never checked before. I guess i can try to see if she lays eggs in a separate container.

I will say if you can take her outside that is the best as the container option does not work for alot of people.

its only like 30 degrees out. Ugh i have no idea what to do even if she does have eggs

Try an indoor nesting area. It's a pain to setup and usually don't work but it's worth a shot.

She laid them outside in 45 degree ish weather. she would just keep climbing the aquarium wall ( the one we had dirt in for her to lay her eggs) and falling on her back so we asked a vet if it would be okay to take her out and they said just watch her if she starts slowing down bring her back inside she was out there till her business was done, the weather didn't bother her a bit. Took about 2 and a half hours in total.

Tough girl! I took my turtle out to lay in 70 degree weather and it was too cold for her :roll:
