How big is your turtle? Uncertain, shell length is shorter than the length of a sharpie.
How long have you had it? Was given to me about 2years ago

What is the water temperature? Around 80, automatic heater regulates
Did you use a thermometer? No
Are you using a water heater? Yes
How much water is in there? 30-35 gal
Are you using a water conditioner? Yes, using sludge destroyer and aquasafe
Are you using any filtration? Yes

What is the basking temperature? Uncertain
Is there a basking light? Yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? Styrofoam painted like a log
Is there a UVB light? Yes, tho one was inoperable for a month and had to replace

What have you been trying to feed it? Variety of floating sticks, meal worms, river shrimp
When was the last time your turtle ate? Today

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 40 gal, new since August but problem started prior to that
Is the tank near a window? No
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? Yes- classroom

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? The shell is looking flaky but is still solid underneath the flakes. No squishy or white spots. I will try uploading a picture in the comments as it is too big. No other problems, pleasant and happy guy unaffaid of the kids, often swims towards me/them when near. Super man poses in the basking light even if the class is loud. Loves to tip over his ceramic/plastic bonsai tree, took him to the vet months ago for a check up and he said he looked a little underweight so I tried to increase feeding. Will occasionally give lettuce, carrots, apple peels, live feeder fish, natural aquatic plants, etc as well as floating stick food and “gourmet” treat medley.

If it's thin and translucent, it's pretty normal. Sounds like he's being well taken care of.

The shedding is a bit irregular but should be OK. It does look like he's overfed, you do need to reevaluate his diet.

The amount of "rings" or layers indicate that he's been feed too much of an irregular diet. Ideally the shell should be smoother.
