Notice our red ear slider was incredibly lethargic about a month ago. We swapped lights in May and got a full spectrum light - turns out no UVB. We switched the bulbs and have been sunning him for about 30 mins a day and also dry docking him for about six hours a day. He gets Reptomin pellets daily, broccoli & zucchini a few times a week. There are gold fish in the tank - they're bigger now and he doesn't tend to bother them. His set up is 250 gallon tank with floating docks. Tank has an Eheim Professional 3 filter on it - water gets changed and filter cleaned at least once a month. There is a heater now that it is winter, the temperature is usually around 80 degrees. The tank is in the living room - there are windows on the other side of the room. It has little activity - no drafts.
He’s about thirty years old.
We had been doing a betadine bath with a toothbrush for about two weeks. The shell had a little rot on the one side and there was pink on his belly and around his mouth. His belly has completely cleared up. There is a little pink still around the mouth. Energy level has mostly come back in the tank - not very active out of it. He used to chase us around before - was super active. He has an appetite and eats every morning. There is a little wet/gurgle sound when you take him out of the tank. He does not breathe through his mouth when he's out. There was a noticeable amount of swelling around his front left arm about a month ago. That has gone down by about 75% since we've fixed the lighting issue. He does move around, but not like he used to. He is level in the water. Should we be dry docking him more?
