Leo was given Ceftazidine to cure his RI. He has to have an injection once every three days. My question is how do I "mix" the ceftazidine powder with the sterile water I was given??
I have a call into the vet as she didn't tell me during my visit, but I figured so many people on here have dealt with RIs that maybe one of you had the same medicine and would remember what your vet told you.
thanks.

I haven't had an encounters with Ceftazidine, though I think it is a powerful drug. Best to see what the doc recommends, though I think test tubes (with measurement markings) would be useful.

This is a very good drug, and from what I've read quite safe (when used as directed). You have to mix the powder with the water to make a solution? Is the problem that it won't mix readily or is it that the amount of powder to the amount of water needs to be determined? You need to contact your vet for the appropriate dosage (if you haven't received it).

Thanks, I finally got ahold of the vet today. The problem wasn't the mixing it was that the potency dissipates after 7 days once mixed, but Leo needs injections for a month... but I can freeze the extra aliquots (sp) and thaw as I need.... now I just need to find a way to befriend my turtle after all this needle sticking

he's not terribly happy

I just had to get injections for my RES for his shell rot. I tried and tried and could not give him the shots. You must be brave!!! Good luck, I'm sure your turtle will be better in no time!

I gave my little tutles shots for a week and they have totally forgotten about it! Just give him a little time. As Steve told me, they do remember who feeds them tasty pellets!
