how big is your turtle? Once he/she reaches 4 or 5 inches in length you should be able to tell by the claws, tail and cloacea, as you've probably already heard. If you have a mature male, he may expose his penis (it's called fanning) whenever he's in the mood. The claws are usually a tell tale sign tho.

The male's penis is inside the cloaca, so you can't actually see it unless he shows it to you.

Each species of turtles have different shapes and sizes, so there are multiple answers to your question.
But once you see it, you'll know. Be sure that it's his penis rather than prolapse for these two can be confusing to determine.
If it goes back in, most likely it's his penis, if it doesn't and sort of looks like his intestines, then its most likely prolapse.

I see in your other post that your turts are only 3 inches or so. Don't worry about sexing them yet. Work on providing a better/bigger home for them first.

Males will fan (expose their penis) sometimes, so if you happen to see it, then congrats, you have a boy.
But some people mistaken the penis for prolapse and the other way around. Prolapse is when the turtle's intestines fall out of the anal vent which is a serious medical situations. Prolapse do not go back inside the turtle. The penis do go back into the turtle.

Males have longer nails. You can also determine their sex by their size but this is only useful when both male and female are large in size. Males grow up to 8-9 inches and females can exceed to 12 inches.
Here is a site that will illustrate sexing

I'd recommend having a parent, guardian or teacher educate you on animal reproduction.
