Whoa where did you get that southern? Her patterns are outstanding! You could be consider her a high colored southern.

The top pic to the right shows it best...While I don't think it's pyramiding, the scutes are raised and the carapace is not perfectly smooth as it should be (I can see slight spaces in between the scutes). It looks like the turtle is getting ready to shed. Combined with the flared marginals in the back and the slight upturned marginals toward the front, I'd say your painted is growing too fast. What are you feeding? How much and how often? A good shed would smoothen out that shell...

I don't know if mine are high colored southern painteds or not. I've looked to compare mine with the high colored ones sold at turtlesource [not reputable].com and i can't be sure. anyway, mine were darker and less colorful when they were smaller. I'd be surprised if they are high colored though, can anyone tell?

Here's the link to the High Coloreds sold at TS.com : http://www.theturtlesource.com/turtle_i ... =100200363

compared to mine: http://turtlefantasy.files.wordpress.co ... 020247.jpg

As for the pyramidding, yeah, i was worried about the edges moderator marisa. I've had them since they were about 1.5 inches and fed them every day until recently (about 2 months).. Now they are 3 inches and I feed them every other the size of their head + neck.

Only feed an amount the size of the head---don't include the neck.

Yes, this is pyramiding... main issue here is Muffin is way overfed and her scutes have grown faster than her shell can accommodate.
