can red eared sliders eat frogs? I added 30 of them to my pond. All are missing now... Are they toxic? I heard they lose their poison overtime but can frogs be part of their diet?

i dont think frogs are reccomended for turtles.

turtles eat almost anything. they've eaten gravel...why not frogs?

if you want something to survive in a tank do not put it with a turtle it wont survive

the frogs sold to you...what color wore they? do you know the species?

Yes, turtles eat frogs, as well as snails, small and large fish, bugs, etc.

As for poisonous, you should never add ANYTHING to your turtles' pond unless you are 100% positive that they are safe to be eaten. What type of frog were they? Is it possible they escaped?

If one turtle consumed all of the frogs, he or she will likely become very ill in the near future so keep an eye out. If multiple turtles ate them, you may be okay if the toxin/poison was spread out over many turtles. That doesn't mean that you should feed frogs to your turtles, it just may mean that you lucked out. Be more careful next time.

They were those black small frogs and grew up to be slightly brownish. Yeah it was spread out. Sorry it was a typo there were 90 of them. All gone so quickly. Lucky they were cheap, costed $2 for 30 of 'em. Yep won't ever serve frogs again!

im willing to bet your frogs just hopped out and away from your pond. if thats not what happened, you better wait a while before feeding your turtles again.

Yes, turtles will eat frogs and anything they can catch. If native frogs harmed turtles there would be fewer turtles.

Nah they ate 'em. My ponds a raised one not built in the ground. Too high for the frogs to jump out. And they can't climb walls.

A member on another forum made a post this week stating that she had some frogs get into her conservatory where one of her ponds is, and she saw her turtle eat one, so yeap. If the frog stays still enough, turtles will eat it.

Unfortunately Red eared sliders can and do eat frogs. I just saw my large slider killing a large native frog in our outdoor pond. It was disturbing to see. I'm glad to know it's not uncommon. I have never witnessed him doing it before. I wanted to add more turtles to our pond this year but now I am wary. Will my adult slider kill juvenile turtles to?

It's possible that a slider would kill another, though it is rare. How big is the pond?
