So we have setup our girls' tank in my bedroom and hubby does NOT like the red heat lamp I usually keep on all the time. Is it ok to only have it on while I use my uvb lamp? Or do I need to go buy a ceramic heater? I am waiting on a MegaRay bulb but won't that mean no heater lamp at night too?

Are the lights shutting off at night? I'm not a big fan ceramic heaters (fragile, expensive, dull color when using with a CFL).

The red heater I kept on 24/7 but turned off the Uv for the night. Was looking at the ceramic because it still emits heat without light. But thinking now they should not need basking heat at night anyways right? Hubby and I argued and he let me keep the red heater light on last night but...

They don't need it at night. If you don't have one, you need a fully submersible water heater for his tank. His basking light and UVB (or MVB if you get one) can e shut off in the evening.

I just talked to Deb Mac and ordered my 100watt megaray:) good to know then. Yes I keep a water heater in both my tanks. One time the heater died out and the tank water just wouldn't get warm so we keep one in always. I am concerned with the outer air since it is a/c time and we keep it cool in the house.

Good luck with megaray, they have had a lot of shipping problems.

Makes sense. She did tell me they had to follow some new shipping regs which is why they were back ordered. Takes longer or something to get the ready so hopefully that means better shipping now!

They've lost tons of customers/business because of the manufacturing problem and mismanagement of the situation. I hope it works out for both you and Mega Ray, they used to be very reputable.
