Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I use to be able to buy a product called Vitashell, which really seemed to help my 49 year old RES with her shell dryness. Anyone have any experience with other products, because I can no longer get this one?

Kathywa,
As you said it's no longer made. Here is a list of the ingredients, I hope this may help you compare it to other products. It is comprised of purified softened water, sunflower oil, emulsifying wax, cetyl alcohol, coconut oil, palm oil, soybean oil, glycerin, lanolin, cotton seed oil, other conditioners, urea, propylparaben, rosemary oil, and coloring agents.

It's wasn't considered to be a healthy product. What's wrong with shell dryness? It's normal and healthy for the shell to dry off. I'm curious, what were the benefits to your turtle?

Thank you, Steve. I have to do a lot of scrubbing to help her shed & keep fungus under control & just looked to me like it helped
to keep her shell looking better. She seems to be doing fine & I will just leave well enough alone :) Vet gave me some silver sulf.
& that seems to be helping with the fungus.

If the shell is healthy, you don't need to do much or anything at all. Getting her to bask as much as possible will probably help the most with shedding. Fungus should be treated as quickly as possible, but you might need aggressive treatment if it's a reoccuring problem. SSD cream is great, but don't over do it as I believe there are fungal strains that resist it.

Interesting that they no longer make it. Guess that means the one jar I have just went way up in value. Might have to put it on ebay. Lol
