Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I'm going to be transporting my turtle fm SD to Grass Valley, (10 hr drive) should he be in or out of his tank for the drive? And do I need to give him anything for shock? He's lived in SD his whole life around, 18yrs? There's a big altitude difference and I just want to keep him healthy .

A he 18 so must be about 8" or so. I would "not" use his tank to transport him , be moving around to much and stress him out. I would get a cardboard box about 12-14" square and place a towel in it giving him something to hang on to and or hide under. About half way take him out and use any bowl with clean water so he can take a drink if he wants or just let him get wet a little while to rehydrate then back on your way. Don't use a plastic tote he will slide around to much cardboard is better with a towel. 10 hours not that long of a trip for him , he will do well.

He may make a mess in it with #1 and #2 so use an old towel !

Be aware of the temp in the car as well and if you can check on him every now and then (except if you are the one driving of course). My pal took their turtle on a trip but the AC was a bit too cold, the little guy didn't like it. :|
