If it's coming off normally (thin and translucent), leave it be as it should come off soon. Retained scutes should be handled with care, since they might pull off parts of the vulnerable scute underneath. Do check retained scutes carefully since they might also cause an infection of the scutes under it.

You can VERY LIGHTLY scrape a bit with your hand. If it doesn't come off easily, don't force anything, you might hurt your turtle s:

Yes I agree with Steve . To a point , PokePony too , "Very Lightly" only , some will have a different definition of very lightly // if you pull can cause damage to the new scute even bone underneath . Best "beginners" let the whole scute come off on it's own rather pulling any breaking scute into pieces. Infection's can and will happen quickly especially talking about retained scutes.

That's very vague ! Any pictures ? Close up. I assume not earth worms you trying to feed it. With all the foods you have been using you need to remove all that's not eaten , everyday. More time and attention needs to be given to the setup. Read top header on this page for habitat care and water quality. When leaving uneaten food in a tank it's common you will get planaria or detritus worms , clean all well filter too ! Will take time to get all stages/generations of them out.

Did you get a work permit yet any side jobs around the neighborhood ? Maybe got something the tank needs for Christmas ? Going five months since you got Rocky he needs the things we talked about before post end up in urgent care.

Try live aquatic plants from a fish store. Our turtle won't eat any vegetables unless it has been a plant from our fish tank.

Is this with the lights on? They are usually alert when basking, but do nap from time to time.

If it happens for brief periods, it's somewhat normal.
