General Care Discussion :: My new RES is afraid of me!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So I had this 4-inch RES from a friend about three days ago. I'm not sure about James' (his name, btw) age because my friend did not tell me so. How do I make my turtle not scared of me? How do I get him to sort of know me? Because everytime I go see him, he will just swim away from me or hide inside his shell immediately.

It takes time for any turtle to get use to a new home and schedule. The more turtle friendly you make his habitat will help. Move around the tank slow for a little and quiet will help to. Look in photo gallery for some setup ideas may help. Look at the tank from the turtles eyes not necessary setting it up to fit in the room. Once he get use to you he will tell you what he really wants by his actions. Observe well. My Piggley always tells me he want's something different or new. Relative to his size you are a giant especially being in a new place ! He will learn who you are since you feed him !
