General Care Discussion :: Not basking/jumping into tank

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I've noticed in the last week that my turtle doesn't bask on his rock under his heat/UVB lamp anymore. He used to bask daily but lately I haven't seen him on his rock for more than 15 seconds. Instead he likes to climb on his basking rock jumps/slides into the water, he does this about 3 times consecutively and then swims around. I'm not sure if he does this because he is bored or for self enrichment? Nothing within the tank has changed, so I'm not sure if I should be concerned.

I did take a video of each time he took his leap into the water, however each time I try to attach one of the upload it times out.

Is it winter where you are? They're known to bask less/eat less during the winter season.

Hmmm...ya it is winter. I guess that's what it might be. Is there a way that turtles know the change of seasons?

Yup, even when in doors. Mine even knew when it was raining when she was gravid.
