hi!

New to the raising of RES! I adopted a 10 yr old female. I dont have her basking lamps yet. But i do have a water heater.
she is currently going in and out of the water to the basking area. Is this normal? Like she doesnt sit there for longer than 20 seconds and then jumps right back in, looks at me through the glass and does it all over again. Trying to get my attention?

Any advice? Normal behavior? Is she just gettint used to it all?

Maybe she goes to bask and when she notices you she gets scared and goes back to the water

or maybe she's begging for food

shes sat in the baskint area with me in full view before. Just the first time i see this. So was wondering
what it may be. Could she be regulating her temp quickly? we dont have the heat lamps yet

Shes not really going to bask without a heat source. The warmth entices them and allows them to thermoregulate. They might go up out of the water as a habit, but will lose out on a lot of the benefits.
