We had a friend looking to get rid of their 7-8 year old RES and asked if we wanted to try them in our Koi pond.

Our pond is about a 1000 gallons and 4 feet deep at the deepest part.

First couple days have gone well. The odd chasing of the Koi but for the majority of the time they are just roaming about on the bottom of the pond. They only come up for air it seems. We have a large piece of driftwood that spans across the width of the pond for them to climb on but have shown no interest.

Wondering if this is just part of the re homing process until they get used to the new environment.

What's the weather been like? The sun and warmth will entice them to bask, though RES are very curious and are probably exploring their new home. Do you have any barriers to prevent them from escaping? They are quite excellent going over and under most obstacles.

The whole pond is surrounded by armour stone wall that’s roughly 8 inches above the water level.
Weather is getting warmer and warmer we are in southern Ontario. They just went in this week. They are definitely exploring the whole pond.

What's the water temperature? I've seen some RES climb over 8", though they should be more inclined to stay put in a large pond.

Is it easy for them to climb that driftwood? Are you feeding them, in addition to whats in the pond?
