He might hurt himself more from the scute while being out of the tank. How pointy is it? It might be necessary for a vet to take a look at it.

Well the Big Guy is all healed
But he still isn't getting out of the water to bask yet
I did the ramp over and the dock still no basking
I'll post some new photos made the ramp wider and put non slip rubber on the ramp
with non-slip drawer liner
Also put a rubber mat on the basking platform
Just did it two days ago

I'd point the lamp over the ramp more, to try to entice him.

The ramp goes into the water about 2" about 3"+ when the level is up
I'll have to try angling the light toward the ramp
Thanks for your comments Kansas and Steve
I'll get back to you guys we'll see if the light entices him
In the meanwhile I been thinking of putting him outside with a large
deep pond at least 75 gallons
He's getting too big to house him properly inside

It was a 30 gal long then the most recent is a cement mixing tub from Home Depot and it holds about 45 gallons --50 if filled to the top
I guess at 10 gallons per inch it's really too small he's about 7.5 inches long that would be more like 75 gallons
In that case 75 to 100 gallons would have to go outside!

Kansasslider,
It depends on how many gallons I would need?
I rather leave him inside!
What do you suggest
A 50 gallon stock tank is not much bigger than my present set up
