Hi guys,

Our turtle lives in a room with my daughters, they love watching him.

I just bought a MarineLand C220 filter. The exit part of the filter (plastic part at the end of the hose) is designed to put water back into the tank above the water level making a splashing noise. This makes a noise keeps my girls awake, so I have to shut off the filter when it's their bed time, and I know that's not good for the turtle.

So can I place the exit part under the water level, so that it's quiet and the filter can run while they sleep? Will the filter still work correctly if it's under the water?

Thanks!

Todd

Yes it can go under the water surface. The surface might develop oil or protein slicks but should be fine if you're only doing it part of the time.

Put it below the water, but angled up slightly so it breaks the surface tension. That will help reduce any protein slick.

I got a 45* elbow and directed the outflow upwards, makes a ripple on the top but no gurrgle :) thanks!

Hi Steve, there does appear to be a very faint oily film on the surface. I've been wracking my brains and the only thing I can possibly think might cause this is that I used "Plumbers Goop" a silicone glue to attach the rope to the PVC pipe (the Turtle loves to climb on it), but I let the glue dry overnight so I wouldn't think it could still be curing, and if it was still curing I don't think Mr. Turtle would climb on something so un-natural

thanks much for your thoughts Steve, Todd

I'm not sure, but its possible it's not safe to use in the tank. What is he being fed?
