That depends in part on the amount of UVB the bulb is giving off. One that gives off 5% is fine 6-8 inches from the turtle. One that gives off 10% a bit more ( about 8-10 inches).These distances are for regular UVB lights.
Living where you do, though, your turtles must be able to get some of their UVB needs met from being outdoors?
