It is pretty creative, doesn't look ghetto at all. I've had bad luck with silicone sticking to anything plastic. It'll stick initially but then loosen pretty quickly.

I hope that doesnt happen! They are obsessed with that dock. I think they are just happy they can get up there at the same time :)

Hi

I've been given a RES turtle.
It's at least 15 years old and it's been fed raw cow & chicken meat.
I think I'll vary her diet a bit with pellets, dandelion and meadow snails which inhabit my town area.
Right now it refuses to eat any greens and begs for meat.

But the biggest challenge was the dock where the turtle could rest.
I was very dissatisfied with commercial choices.
They have wrong sizes, or they float, or they're just too expensive and I refuse to pay $30 for a piece of floating plastic, even though I can afford it (kind of an anti-consumerism philosophy).
So I went to a hardware store and I bought hinges, mat, nails and wood that was properly cut (total cost $15), and I made this:

The wood will rot away if it's contact with the water. Some people use acrylic/plexiglas for their ramps.

You can try what I did, I made my ramp with eggcrate and zap straps, that way the wood doesn't rot.

Thanks for the advice. Right now the turtle does not want to get in there. I hope it's because of stress of something new and eventually she will get used to it.
I thought my ramp is too steep but seeing this:

my ramp is actually half the angle, so if your turtle can clamber it, than my should too.

The only problem I see is that turtles, when leaving the ramp, do not "walk down", they just slide and let their body fall like a stone. This way the turtle hits the wall of the aquarium. I think the glass will hold strong, I just hope the turtle won't break her neck when sliding head on into the wall...

Mine do that too.. I wouldn't worry...they are pretty tough. Just remember they live in the wild for years.. they instinctively know how to protect themselves. How big is the turtle/tank?

I have NEVER seen my turtle walk down the ramp..they always jump :)

It's a little steep but mine seem fine and able to climb it no problem. I have a RES and a Map they go up their all the time. Also they never climb down, they just hop off. My RES just loves to dive off, he actually just goes up their to jump off sometimes, cause he goes up for like 10 secs then jumps off, and then repeats it a few times.

That's what it looks like. The turtle is the same size as the wooden ramp.
I'm happy the turtle finally decided to climb in there. It's been 20 hours of her constant basking now !
