Hi
What tempertaure should the water be kept at? I'm trying to look for an aquarium heater but not sure which is the correct one, can anyone help please? Could you also suggest how strong the heater should be e.g. 50watts or 150watts etc

The water temperature should be around 76-78 degrees.
10watts to every gallon. So if you have a 10 gallon tank, a 100watt heater will work well.

Guides for wattage I've seen recommend 3-5 watts per gallon of water. I use 5 watts per gallon as a calculation. Make sure the heater is fully submersible.
A bigger heater isn't bad, it just may be overkill, but then again the heater can be used longer as the tank is up graded. A heater with a wattage that's too low has to work harder to keep the water warm and may not last as long.
Get a heater with an adjustable thermostat. The pre-set heaters are cheaper, but you won't be able to adjust the temp. It's also good to compare the temp that the heater's set at with the water temp using a thermometer-- the heater setting can be inaccurate and there can be some pretty significant differences between the two.
