i have a heat lamp. well am i suppose to always leave it on or like turn it off at night so the turtles can get some sleep?

Turn it off at night. If you want, you can get a reptile red light to keep teh ambient temp up, but you don't need it. I used to have one but don't use it any more. Just turn the basking light on when you get up and shut it off when you go to bed, it should be fine (unless you have wacked out sleeping patterns).
