Basking Problem!!!

I realized this afternoon that I accidentally bought the small turtle dock for my 4 inch res! Is this a big problem or will he still be able to bask on it. I'm pretty sure he can fit onto it, but could this be the reason he's not basking. I was just watching him and he went up to the ramp multiple times, put his claws on the rock and went back in the water. Is it possible that he can't get on because it is to small? I'm wondering if this is why he won't bask.
What I'm asking is, is this dock too small? If I need a bigger one, what size should I get? Also, is it possible to return one after its been int he water for a week and a half?

Ideally you want a basking area that's big enough for your turtle to be able to move around somewhat on so he can be nearer or further away from the basking light as he wants (he can adjust his body temp this way). Are you the person who's using a combo mercury vapor bulb in a small tank? If so, the small basking area could be contributing to his not wanting to bask.
Where did you buy the dock? Is it still in good condition and do you have the original box/receipt? I know the Petsmart near me is pretty good about taking things back even after quite a bit of time has gone by. Other places should be as well, especially if they know you're going to purchase something else.

Yes that's me =P
I wish I had know about the combo lamp before I bought it, but it was $80 so I can't just get another...

Are you using the TRex combo bulb? If so, the lowest wattage i've seen in those is 100 watts and that's way too high for a 10gal. If that's not what you're using, disregard that..lol

check the basking temp. if it's too hot, he won't bask. same with the water temp.

Naw, the basking temp is good, it's around 90, and the water temp is about 76, so he should be all set. Also, I went to the store today, and they will let me return it to get the other size (I have to go back tomorrow, because I forgot to put the suction cups in the box...DUH)
