OK, we got our 75 gal tank and now want to buy a Rena XP3 and heater, where is the best place to buy these?

Also, what else can we put in there? The tank looks huge and too boring!

I get a lot of stuff from PetSmart since they price match any retailer. Just bring a printout from the cheapest place you can find and bring it in to Petsmart at the time of your purchase.

bigalsonline.com has good prices on the XP3 as well. They are also good for the filter media that goes along with it.

Depends on what you're looking for. It's always good to compare places. For a places that where you can consistently get a good price on filters and supplies, www.bigalsonline.com is where I go. For lights, www.4littlepets.com or www.reptiledirect.com have a good variety.

Wylie- Do you have a heater?

Get a submersible water heater with a thermostat you can adjust. For a 10 gallon tank you need at least a 50-watt heater (think 5 watts per gallon), but if you got a 100-watt heater, you could use it for a 20-gallon as well. :)

Getting a heater guard would lessen the worry of your turtle getting burned. Tronic makes good ones, and they fit a number of other brands. Compare the length of the heater with the size guard you'll need to make sure the heater will fit into it. You can get both at www.bigalsonline.com

Wylie723, is the Boston weather that cold? NYC has been having its warmest summer I can remember. I have to do multiple water changes a day just to lower the temps. If Wylie's tank is in a room with AC, make sure it's away from the drafts.

Anyway, what is too cold? Water should be around 78, basking area should be 90. Are you measuring the temperatures with thermometers? You need to do that to have some accuracy (DO NOT GUESS), and if the water is 75 or below, go to a local petstore and get that heater. Don't waste time ordering it online if you need it right away.

You shouldn't put your turtle in the sun. Take the tank out of the AC room that would help to not make his water so cold. Is it possible for you to order a heater online because the prices are much more reasonable than you'd pay in a petstore etc. Thermometers are rather inexpensive like $2 or less so I'd strongly suggest you get one and check the water temperature. Do you have a UVB light and a light for heating the basking area?

thanks
