stock tanks are like troughs that horses drink out of. I know there are a few people here that use them...there may be a pic in the photo section. I think you get them at a farm supply place...not sure because we don't have anything like that around here.

I have been toying with the idea of making an above ground pond with that kind of stock tanks
If I ever do, I will take some pictures of the process.

I am a big fan to stock tanks--cheaper, easier to clean and move than aquariums. And I think they provide a more natural environment for turtles.

While stock tanks are practical, cheaper, and easier to handle, you're quite lucky if you find one that's see-through. If you can't watch through the walls, that's no fun.

Maybe get an underwater spy cam for the stock tank, make sure it is very waterproof.

I have to disagree with you, knite. Have you ever seen a pond or river with glass sides? To me, it's much more fun observing what a turtle does when he's unaware that you're looking at him--no begging or trying to swim at you through the glass--just him exploring what's around him. And basking on his corkbark, he gets a pretty good view of what's going on in the room.
The bottom line is any container that's safe and big enough for the size a turtle is is good. But stock tanks give the turtle and keeper the best of both worlds. (JMHO)
