Everytime I clean my turtles tank out, this clear slime builds up underneath the floating island that I have in the tank. Just yesterday after cleaning the tank no longer than 5 or 6 days ago, a build up of this smokey clear/white probably 1/4 the size of a penny was sitting there. What is causing this slime? and what is it, and how do I stop it

I know that when I started feeding Neptune strawberries and other fruits and veggies that his tank was all slimey in the filter.

but if not fruits and veggies, I hope s/he is not sick.

Actually mine did that until I did my first full tank cleaning right after I got my turtle. But since then it's not come back. I was curious about that as well. Maybe it is the fruits, because the only thing different I've done is not give any more strawberries.

I feed him outside the tank. You know what, its got to be the filter, it is awful. I need to invest in another one. Right now the little guy is in a 10 gallon tank, and i hear its good to get a filter for a tank double its size. Is it save to go triple or even double.

no, in a 10 gallon tank anything more than double would be like a flushing toilet in the tank. too much current.

If you get a bigger tank it will help a lot as well. since there is moore water it takes longer to go bad.

It could be a start off in algae growing the tank, if you see a little coloration (brown, purple, or green)
Strawberries and other fruits can as well get the tank slimey. Watermelon usually leaves the tank cloudy

The slime/debris tends to build up more where the water isn't circulating well or as much, like under your floating island. If you've got a small tank with a lower water level and a poor filter, 5-6 days is not unreasonable for having to do a cleaning/water change.

A larger tank would increase your options for getting a decent filter.
