I was just wondering out of curiosity. I have both mine on a timer and i give leave them both on for 13 hours but i put it on from 9 am to 10 pm because we are late night people and the main light in my living room stays on later.

I leave mine on and make sure he has a dark area if he needs it.

I follow the day light hours around here on a timer.

I try to follow the daylight hours here, but sometimes I leave it on a bit longer if they are basking. I don't like to cut their basking time short.

I've done the same sometimes, Jenero. This past summer the lights were on for about 13 hours on average. Now I'm slowly moving the times on the timers back as the days get shorter, probably to around 11 hours.

My RES is in the living room and lights are usually on late as well. I cover the tank when the lights go out (leaving a small portion near the wall partially uncovered for air to circulate) so my RES can sleep and people can use the room.

Mikey is in my room and when I'm home I'll leave his basking light on. If I'm not home and no one else is home then it has to be turned off. (rules are rules yah know...and no one wants the house to go poof!) But usually he gets 11 hours. Sometimes more it just depends. But when I go to bed I turn the lights out. Though he has to put up with the t.v. lights for a bit if he can see them after I turn his basking light off. But I try to follow the daylight schedule too. I figure if I can try and keep him on a normal schedule the better.

Er? I am confused I read on a post that you should leave them on to regulate temperature . . . .

The lights are there to provide.. UVB (sunlight) and basking heat. The submersible heater is to keep the water warm. It's suggested you use a day/night cycle that is equal to the season, longer in summer.. shorter in winter, to simulate nature.
