Hi pplz.

Can You use sand for the bottom of a turtle tank? I thought it would make the water murky and/or irritate the turtles eyes. I want to try it out so that there "hershy kisses" dont get stuck between the rocks.

I've heard/read that turtles can eat sand and become impacted just like they do if they eat gravel. I just use river rocks and Koopa loves to sit in between them as if he's hiding.

I use river rocks. yes it can be a pain to clean but I can't imagine cleaning sand is any easier to "vacuum" either. I'd be afraid of the impaction also.. I know they can't swallow these

God imagine having to do a full water change with sand on the bottom? (shudders)

I also use river rocks, but not enough to cover the bottom. They're really just there so the turts can push them around. I thought about using sand when I upgrade but I can't imagine how I would clean with the Python.

thanx for the replies. i didnt think turtles would consider sand to be food. i should have known tho bcuz my turts eat anything as soon as it hits the water.
