i finally got gustav his 55 gallon with a stand so i upgraded to a xp3 filter...but the freakin thing doesn't fit underneath in the stand. i'm going to have to put it on the floor in front of the tank (almost in the middle of my living room)with the tubes going around the sides. has anyone else had this problem? :?

I'm not sure I understand--do you mean the stand is so low that the filter won't fit underneath, or is the stand the type that has draws and a shelf/shelves underneath so that the filter won't fit in it? The XP3 should fit under a basic stand. If there is a shelf, can a portion of the shelf be cut out to make the filter fit?

We had to put our XP3 on the side of the tank and feed the hoses around back. I was glad I did not cut the hoses. Over time however the hoses tend to bend and kink a little so we used plastic zip ties to secure the hoses together and drape the hoses on the corner of the stand to keep them fully open.
We have a shelf under our stand so the XP3 will not fit underneath. It does however make it easy to unhook to clean the filter.

well, i have the filter set up in front of the tank. the stands only shelf is to close to the tank to fit the filter...oh well. i thought about cutting a hole so the filter could sit on the floor and come up through the middle but i don't want to upset the stability of it. heres a pic and i'll put more in the gallery.
