The basking area really wasn't that hard to build. It's not perfect because the only power tools I have are a cordless drill and a jigsaw but it turned out pretty well anyways.

The ramp is sealed plywood. I attached it to the basking area with two metal braces bent downward. The green stuff is actually kitchen cabinet shelving liner. It it fairly strong material and gives the turtle grip. He loves sitting on the ramp with his head towards the water after he gets done basking. I guess his butt needed some heat too.

I haven't had to clean it yet. It's only been a week since he moved in. It's a 90 gallon tank and I am able to fill it almost to the top with the basking area up above so the turtle to water ratio is high. I am going to do partial water changes once a week and use my python system to suck out poop and stuff that collects on the bottom and see how things go. The XP3 filter is fantastic.

I haven't actually measured Trevor in awhile but I think he is full grown now.

No. Just one heater. Those other two things are the intake and return from the canister filter.

Nice turtle condo! (The first few pics had me wondering, though. It took me a minute to realize they were overhead views--I initially thought the tank was made of wood.)

doesn't it bother you that you cant see the basking area? I would hardly ever see my turtle if i couldn't see it while it was basking.

Thanks marisa. Yeah my picture taking skills aren't the best.

bcarter, you can see the basking area. I only put walls on three sides. I put the wire mesh over the top and the front side so that we could see in. This gives the turtle some privacy so he feels safe but still lets us be able to see him while he's in there. I was originally going to put walls on all four sides and then put in some plexiglass windows but this way was easier.

how much distance is left between the water level and the top of the tank? I wan't to do something similiar, but i'm afraid the turt can just climb out

It's a 90 gallon tank and I have the water about 2-3 inches from the top. I have a glass top on the right side of the tank so he cannot climb out and the basking area completely covers the left side so no areas for escape.
